Meet Me On The Moon - Red Scare Industries

A nice slab of very listenable power pop from Oregon pop punk act Broadway Calls, Meet Me On The Moon is the first single to be revealed from Sad In The City, the brand new upcoming full length that will be released this July via Red Scare Industries. Loads of melody and a catchy, shout-along chorus make this an easy and enjoyable listen. All of the power punk pop boxes are ticked: the bass growls and thunders, the guitars jangle and fuzz and the vocal is suitably gruff and heartfelt. You’d expect this level of accomplishment and expertise from a band around since 2005 – they’re pretty good at this and if the marketplace for this kind of thing is pretty crowded, Broadway Calls have all the tools in the box for continued success.

There is a change of gear for the B-side, which is a stripped-down version of rollicking fan favourite Call It Off. This mostly acoustic rendition shows the band in a more self-reflective, laid back mood and the band have seized the opportunity to demonstrate that power pop punk can also have a serious side. A good song is a good song regardless of style and this is definitely a very good song.

A strong and welcome return for the popular three piece. These are powerful songs with just enough edginess to lift the band up above the herd in this genre. This single is a statement of intent and on the strength of it, the pending album due in the summer definitely should be something to look forward to.

The digital version of ‘Meet Me On The Moon‘ is now available for streaming and download via Bandcamp and digital service providers, the 7″ vinyl will follow next month and can be pre-ordered here.
