There's Something Poisonous In The Water - Dubious Goals Committee
Instant Bin are a two piece Drum & Bass band who reside in Leeds which feature Liv (Drums, Vocal) and Harry (Bass & Vocal), the new debut album “There’s Something Poisonous In The Water” was released upon the world on Friday 15th Nov 2019 and we have the pleasure of giving a little bit of The Punk Site ear time to.
So How many Drum and Bass only bands can you name, well there was the Early 2000’s Death From Above and then there is the more recent Royal Blood both of which had/have been very rooted in the Rock camp, maybe Royal Blood could claim to have Punk influence and you could allow that, but now we have a band that are most definitely breaking some ground with there take on the this version of a two piece set up.
The opening track “It’s Been Ringing” immediately gives you an insight into the simplistic but interesting way that this duo approach the songs, this track kinda makes you wonder are we just gonna get another addition to the very small catalogue of Drum and bass only bands that just do the same thing, well actually no, as the next few songs will reveal that they do have something new and have moved into an area that has seen some kind of follow going on recently, The spoken word accompanied by backing music we are speaking of here, songs like “Edge of The Pavement” and “Return To The Ocean” give you this in very different ways, the 1st being kind of an ode to how stressful life can be and the latter giving a slant on the slow destruction of the planet, or at least that’s my understanding of the lyrics.
In total you have 11 tracks here and all pretty much have so different influences come through, take “Oh Pangea” with it’s very Joy Division feel at the start but then morphs into something different all together, all within it’s total 2min 40 sec length, this being the longest of all on the album.
A short review for a very short album, all just a fraction over 15 mins, but covering so many bases with the style and influence wrapped up in this package.
Royal Blood they are not Death From Above they are neither, they are a band with plenty of potential ahead of them.
