Madison Turner Shares New Single & Video “Had Enough”
Richmond, VA's Madison Turner has shared her brand new single and video, Had Enough, that is now available through streaming…
Church Of The Pistoleros - Earache Records
As the opening line“Our father, who art here never” from the lead single of this album gives away, this is an album for the lost and disaffected in our society, an album that cries out to those who need more than false hope and lies to hold on to. ‘Welcome To The Church Of The Pistoleros’ is the follow up up to the sublime 2023 album ‘Duende A Go Go Loco!’, which was a triumph of musical and lyrical diversity to say the least. Can this latest offering live up or even surpass what has been before, can it propel this band to their rightful place atop the pile. Let’s spend a few paragraphs or more pondering this idea, and when we are done, I’m sure that either way, you will take some more time to listen yourself and join the brotherhood of the “strange and the beautiful wierdo’s”.
The album opens up with the title track ‘Church Of The Pistoleros’ and whether or not your religious, its still a prayer to bring the non believers some police in belonging to a group of alike misfits, no masters no gods shall walk among us is the way ahead for us all, this is all wrapped in the special Gypsy Pistoleros musical theatre. If nothing else, this is a band that believes in using music to tell a story or drive a narrative to its fullest ability, to give the lyrical content a pedestal that stands above all other, and left in no doubt when you listen to a song like ‘Shadow Walker’, that the rock powerhouse behind this monster track is going it the feeling it deserves, a song that has the singer being your shadow friend who is more evil than the evil that wants to eat you alive.
What stood out so well in the last album was the fact that this is a band that never sits squarely in any pigeon hole, in fact they make their on holes to call their own. So it’ll come as no surprise that this album thankfully has followed this trend and added a deeper meaning to it all, with words that mean everything to the listener as much as the singer. Take the old school rock of ‘Whatever Happened To The Old Town’, its still finds time to be relevant and edgier than its predecessors. Then they confidently slot in a cover of the Latin pop song ‘Livin La Vida Loca’ and give it a makeover of all makeovers.
‘I’m In Love Myself’ takes us just over half way through the album, this glam rock sounding moment takes time to look at why we should all be in love with ourselves, because we deserve too, ‘damn we are all amazing’ and all that. ‘Last Of The Commancheros’ drops in next, this is the most melodic on the album with a lighter feel to a song that actually goes deep and dark at times, the brass on this gives it the powerful reach to the sky thing that it deserves.
I said only a few paragraphs would be suffice to give you a feel for this album, but truth is, it’s got so many twists turns, and layers, it’s hard not to get drawn in. The album ends with three songs that musically are so individual, as with all things Pistoleros its rock that’s infused with Punk, Glam and a huge touch of Renegade Flamenco Rock n Roll. The themes in this album vary a little, but what seems to underpin it, is the bands, and especially lead singer Lee’s, need to grab the audience take them by the hand and welcome them into their world of the weird and disaffected.
Was/is this an album that surpasses what has gone before then?, I’d like to say yes, but truth is, this is just another beast of an album that stands on its own just like any Gypsy Pistoleros album, they are all better than the other in their own ways. So in a round about way YES! Was still the answer.
Music and words that flow in their own direction, power to the weird and wonderful, a place to be yourself with others who are just like you, that’s Church Of The Pistoleros.
