Rod Hamdallah might not be a name you are familiar with, but if you throw the names of two acts he has been the guitar slinger for, Legendary Shack Shakers and J.D. Wilkes And The Dirt Daubers, the eponymous singer of which makes an appearance on this EP, out there, then this should start ringing a few bells. Think About It was originally self released on CD in 2014 but now Hound Gawd! Records have released the EP on vinyl for the very first time. The EP’s title track kicks in with a dirty driven garage riff that’s loaded with supercharged blues and the soul of rock ‘n roll, this is followed by Carry You Home that also carries a distinct rock ‘n roll swagger. I Don’t Mind takes the Think About It EP in a different direction with a blast of dirty blues, Heartbeat takes you further into delta before the EP closes with the grinding blues of Take Me Back.
There are obvious comparisons for uninitiated into Rod Hamdallah, depending on which track you’re listening to you could pick up anything from the likes of The Sonics, King Khan and The Creepshow to the likes of Jack White, Black Lips and unsurprisingly the Legendary Shack Shakers. The Think About It EP comes across as a release that is delivered in two very different sections, the opening duo of tracks are born of a hybrid of garage punk and rock ‘n roll, whilst the latter tracks take their cue from the bluesier side of town, it’s likely that this shows that Rod Hamdallah‘s influences but it is also likely to divide your opinion on the Think About It EP’s five tracks.
