Hold No Shame EP - No Front Teeth Records
You need to find the right soundtrack for those mornings after the night before, when the sun is beginning to filter through the blinds and the recollections of the previous evening are just a hazy blur. This EP, by London based singer songwriter Brandy Row, is the perfect accompaniment to times like that. This is his first solo release in over a year and the Hold No Shame Ep contains four tracks of laid back blues influenced urban folk.
Whilst this is a million miles from his other projects, he also plays guitar in London based punk band The Gaggers, it contains no less swagger and attitude than his noisier work. This EP reflects a maturity in his songwriting and shows a wide breadth of influences, from the Dylanesque mellowness of the title track to the indolent garage influenced number Martial Law. The four songs contained on Hold No Shame are all well crafted and bring a lazy blues twist to the dark passionate tone of the songs that make up this release.
This is the perfect backing to those Sunday mornings when you can still taste the bourbon from the night before and are nursing that first coffee of the day. We all need something a bit different from full tilt punk rock from time to time and this is would be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection.
