The World/Inferno Friendship Society

All Borders Are Porous to Cats - Alternative Tentacles

All Borders Are Porous To Cats is the 7th full length offering by World/Inferno Friendship Society, headed by Jack Terricloth this has been more of a fluid band line up or collective over the past few years. Being on Jello Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles label has been a perfect match up.

With all the will in the world you have to be on your top game to even edge into this crazy mad world of mashed up genres and come out the other side with any small idea of what you have just witnessed.

That said, any album that has a song titled Freedom Is A Wilderness Made For You And Me fits perfectly into the Punk ethos of freedom to go where you like, be that in musical or life directions.

If you would like a list of possible influences or If You Likes, then sadly this list would be far too long for this review and maybe it would be a disservice to even try, one that did stick out more than any other though would be Gogol Bordello, genres are another minefield on this album, just when you think your hearing something it moves on with ease and the joins just blur into musical wonderfulness, snippets of post-punk, gypsy jazz, glam and Indie rock, all this sewn together with huge dollops of carnival rock stage show.

Whilst trying to decipher all the amazingly varied styles in here is kind of a pitfall for any would be reviewer, it should be said that this was made so much harder by the way this piece of musical art takes you away from the world just like a good book, which bodes fantastically for any listener who is looking for an adventure in music.

Stand out tracks are The Cat In the Hat Has The Right To Sing The Blues which bounds along just like a cat strutting around circus tent filled with carnival new wave music (just making genres up now), Citizen Of Jazz dare I say it the most complicated track, with its wonderfully evolving sound and yes it even has a hint of Ricky Martin in there just to be covering every base, and then you get I’ll Be Your Alibi slowing the ride down midway through the album, a Bowie ballad if we ever heard one!

A journey of musical art awaits within this one!  If your’e of an adventurous nature when it comes to your listening habits, this album ticks that box.

Out on the 17th January via Alternative Tentacles, you can pre order your copy HERE
