Quiet For Too Long - Self Released

Fierce feminist musician and writer Solvej Schou released her new album, Quiet For Too Long, a few days ago, it’s no coincidence that her latest full length’s release took place in the same week as the 100th anniversary of Congress approving the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote in America. On her latest album she dives headfirst into issues that range from police brutality, anti-immigrant fervour, gun violence, gender equality and powerful womanhood to mortality, depression, love and the death of David Bowie. Quiet For Too Long is another defiant rallying call for long overdue change and equality, and let’s be honest who doesn’t miss David Bowie?

America leads you into the six track mini album, whilst the soundtrack initially takes a melodic acoustic approach there’s no mistaking the venom and rage that is directed squarely at the political regime in the US, something that is sadly equally relevant on both sides of the Atlantic. There’s a defiant tone throughout Quiet For Too Long, it’s no surprise that the album takes it’s direction from the Riot Grrrl movement that Schou was involved in her teens, but it also dips into punk roots and has a raw garage energy, something that comes to the fore as the album progresses with the blues driven In A Minute and Stardust Hero, Schou’s heartfelt tribute to David Bowie

Quiet For Too Long is a powerful and heartfelt record that shows that Solvej Schou is a committed and vocal opponent of the manufactured ills of the modern world, but at the same time it is one that demonstrates that she is just as vulnerable as anyone else. Quiet For Too Long is now available digitally on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and CD Baby and as limited edition vinyl pressing.
