Riskee And The Ridicule

Body Bag Your Scene - Bomber Music

Given the current state of the world, anybody could be forgiven for being in a perpetual state of loss. There’s a tangible feeling in the air of confusion and dismay that has given birth to an increasingly fractured society, something that has lead to a preference for isolation or staring at our own private screens over physical interactions. The flip side of this is the energising of communities who possess the will to fight against the malaise bred by injustice, it is this uncertain state of affairs that has given birth to Riskee and The Ridicule, a band who are set to light the fuse with their latest album, Body Bag Your Scene.

From Accelerate‘s opening gang chant Riskee And The Ridicule do exactly that, this is an album of fierce punk rock that is blended perfectly with attitude of grime, outside of the chorus the lyrics are rhythmically spat out, this is followed by the explosion that is their recent single, Kaboom, and in under eight minutes I’m completely hooked into this genre blending full length. Body Bag Your Scene continues to bring elements from genres together, hints of rock and alt rock creep into the mix, but at it’s core this is a punk sneer from the streets that possesses a lyrical vehemence that carries an irresistible message of unity and resistance. If I had to pick a highlight then it would be Sell Out, a perfect three minute punk hit in an album that constantly shifts in style and brings styles and tribes together, which is exactly what the world needs right now.

Riskee And The Ridicule manage to bring two disparate genres together, both have a lyrical defiance but blending two styles whilst staying true to both of them is a difficult trick to pull off, but it’s one that Riskee And The Ridicule have perfected on their third full length. If you want to try and describe their sound then if you can imagine Rage Against The Machine or Bodycount viewed through the lens of Wonk Unit and Bar Stool Preachers then that’s about as close as you’re going to get, my advice would be to pick up, stream or download a copy of Body Bag Your Scene as this is an album that needs to be heard.
