Grande Royale

Carry On - The Sign Records

Swedish raw Rock n Roll, a connection to Hellacopters and Back Yard Babies that comes in the form of Nicke Andersson and Dregen, what more does this latest album from Grande Royale need to get the headphones on and volume up loud!

Carry On’ is the bands 5th studio full length, due out on March 26th via The Sign Records.  With the previous album ‘Take It Easy’ being an indulgence in trying something new, and although great, this album sees them going back to what they do best, raw gritty, garage rock with the emphasis on down and dirty.

Cracking right on with the first of eleven stonking numbers on this bad boy of an album, ‘Troublemaker’ flies out of the traps with a pure in yer face rock number, a full throttle no nonsense AC/DC fest or Offspring at their rockiest.  Have no doubt that this harks back to all the rock legends of old, but it also has its very own Grande Royale sense of life about it, take ‘Bang’, this song has the unmistakable vocal of Gustav Wremer, as gritty as it comes, as sharp as a razor and as powerful as a pile driver.

The next song that sticks out like a rusty nail, ready to snag you and get the head banging is ‘Not The Same’, Rock n Roll of the kind that you never get tired of listening too, then as soon as this is just dropping off, the title track ‘Carry On’ comes into focus, powers its Queens Of The Stoneage riffs at ya like nothing else matters.

We could go on with the name dropping throughout the whole album, but what drives this album along so much more, is the out and out feel, a feel that you normally only get when kicking the sweat around a mosh pit in a basement club somewhere, a moment in time that the likes of ‘Headbangers Ball’ gives you, that “Ballroom Blitz” feeling.

There’s no point in dragging this review out for any length, it’s just not worth the effort, instead put all your effort into rocking your fucking head off to the album.

Life is always great when Rock n Roll comes to town, to quote a great “the boys are back in town” and their kickin ass!
