American Idiot Closes On Broadway, Billie Joe Armstrong Retakes The Role

After 27 preview performances and 421 regular performance, American Idiot – the Broadway musical based on Green Day‘s 2004 album of the same name – will come to a close on April 24th. For the final three weeks of the show, beginning April 5th until the 24th, Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day’s lead singer and guitarist, will do an encore performance as the character St. Jimmy.  This will be the third time that Amrstrong will take over the role. In the past, his appearance on the show was used to pull in larger audiences – sometimes even fifty percent bigger turnout than the shows without Armstrong performing.

The musical is set to begin a national tour in fall 2011.

So far the show has grossed more than $34 million, won two Tony Awards and has been seen by 440,000 people.
