Manchester punk trio Aerial Salad only formed last year, and after building up an impressive following through relentless touring, including an appearance at FEST in Florida, they have now teamed up with Wonk Unit‘s newly formed label, Plasterer Records, for the release of their debut album, Roach, that contains a dozen punk rock anthems that have a distinctly old school vibe. Despite the fact that as a general rule Aerial Salad are a band that don’t take themselves too seriously the album does touch on some serious subject matter, including depression, self-reflection and the reality of the struggles of modern day life.

From the opening chords of the Roach‘s opener, Habits and Problems, you can’t help but be drawn into an album that channels the finest elements from the last forty years of the punk scene, but this is no recreation of the past as Aerial Salad have also thrown their own style and youthful energy into the mix. Roach is a raw dozen tracks of near perfect punk rock, and when you take into account that Aerial Salad are all still either in their late teens or early twenties it becomes clear that they are one of the brightest prospects on the UK punk scene, and Roach is an album that underscores the reputation they have earned on the live circuit.

Aerial Salad draw from influences such as early Green Day, Bleach era Nirvana, Snuff and a selection of vintage UK punk rock to create a sound that is very much their own, the album embraces punk, ska punk and the ragged edge of the grunge scene to create an impressive debut album. Aerial Salad are a band who have firmly established themselves on the punk scene on their own terms, before they caught the attention of Wonk Unit vocalist, Alex Johnson, who signed them up to his fledgling label, Plasterer Records. Punk may have seen it’s fortieth anniversary come and go, but as long as there are band’s such as Aerial Salad keeping the original spirit alive then the future of our scene is looking bright.

Aerial Salad will on tour in the UK throughout November with Wonk Unit, their tour dates can be found here

Roach can ordered on CD via Plasterer Records here and digitally via Bandcamp here

Aerial Salad To Release Debut Album ‘Roach’

Aerial Salad RoachRoach, the debut full length from Manchester pop punks Aerial Salad, is set to be released on CD via Plasterer Records, the newly formed DIY record label of Wonk Unit frontman Alex Johnson, who had this to say

Aerial Salad are my little scamps from Manchester. Bless ’em. They’re not even out of their teens yet but Jamie’s songwriting is as honest and real as it gets. Pure, raw, angst. I’m serious, if Green Day had released this after Dookie it would be classed as their best release

You can pre-order Roach via Plasterer Records here

Dopamines TOINovember will see the UK release of The Dopamines album, Tales Of Interest on “Rubbish Blue” and “Horrible Green” vinyl via Plasterer Records, the new South London based record label of Wonk Unit frontman Alex Johnson, who had this to say about the release;

I played with The Dopamines last year, on tour in the US. They were messy and all over the place, but man, the sound they made left me floored. Out of the chaos, they produce a noise that is just different to everyone else. The Dopamines made me wanna pick up my guitar and write a punk record.

Blood On The Trucks

Blood On The Trucks is a charity album by Bad Dylan, when Alex, of One Step Outside Records, previous band broke up he decided to act on idea he’d had to do a punk Bob Dylan covers album, and to do it for a good cause. There is no doubting Bob Dylan‘s talent as a songwriter, and what you get on Blood On The Trucks is seventeen interpretations of his songs, the tracks are varied across the whole album and what you think of each track will vary immensely, depending on if you like the vocalist that’s contributing to the track and of course whether you like Bob Dylan‘s songs, and everyone must like at least one even if you’re not a fan of the man himself and like a cover by another artist.

The soundtrack for Blood On The Trucks was recorded by the core trio of musicians that make up Bad Dylan, and the vocals are provided by singers from a veritable who’s who of DIY punk bands, including Wonk Unit, Bolshy, Roughneck Riot and Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man. If you’re thinking this is just going to be a series of sped up Bob Dylan covers then you’d be in for a shock, of course there a fair few of those on here, my personal highlights include Tombstone Blues, that features Kurt from Sounds Of Swami, and a superb version of If You See Her Say Hello featuring Molly Tov from Bolshy and Lab Rats, but there are odd moments, the version of Subterranean Homesick Blues, featuring Captain Hotknives on vocals, is a unique interpretation and Rat Cunt Disco‘s mournful vocal on You Belong To Me just had me scratching my head.

The DIY punk scene has always been one that’s inclusive, friendly and willing to support good causes, Blood On The Trucks gives you a list of bands that would make an amazing festival line up, but the music is a means to supporting the Skatepal charity and you should give this album a go, you get a unique compilation on which I guarantee you’ll find something to your taste, and you might even discover your new favourite band via Blood On The Trucks, and a worthy cause gets funding, what’s not to love?

Blood On The Trucks  was released in October and can be ordered here

100% of profits from the sale of this album will go to SkatePal, you can read more about the charity here
