UK Alt-rockers The Young Hearts are set to release their new EP, Honestly, I’m Just Thinking, on September 29th via Primordial Records. The road to creating their new EP was not an easy one for the band, the EP contains songs that are informed by nostalgia, loss, pain and guilt, emotions that reflect the turmoil that delayed the release of the EP after it was recorded last Spring. The Honestly I’m Just Thinking EP follows on from the bands 2015 EP, Everything We Left Behind, and marks the first studio release from the Kent based quartet after a traumatic couple of years.
Bloom opens the EP with a delicate picked introduction before the rhythm section kicks into gear to deliver a rousing melodic slice of alt rock, one that if I didn’t know better I would guess was from the heartland of the USA. Medicine brings a more reflective feel to the EP before Smoke delivers the most radio friendly and anthemic moment of Honestly, I’m Just Thinking, although it’s the EP’s final moment that is the most haunting, October is a striking finale to the EP that brings everything that this release promised to deliver together for a striking finale.
The anthemic nature of the songs means that this is an EP that is recommended for fans of Brand New, Manchester Orchestra and Gaslight Anthem, the events in the personal lives, including personal loss and trauma, ring out amongst their compositions making this a deeply personal and heartfelt EP. For me Honestly, I’m Just Thinking has a slightly overproduced and precise feel that detracts from the EP’s livelier numbers, but everything just comes together and fits into place for the stunning October which I can guarantee is a track that will stick with you, and I have a feeling that the rest of the EP will be one that grows on me with repeat plays.
Honestly, I’m Just Thinking will be released on vinyl and digital formats on the 29th September through Primordial Records and the EP can now be pre-ordered here
