For the seventh year in a row, downtown Montreal is preparing to be overtaken by punks from all over the world as Pouzza Fest rolls into town. With over 150 bands from Lagwagon and The Flatliners to The Bombpops, Iron Chic, and The Homeless Gospel Choir alongside Rvivr and Red City Radio – there’s a little bit of something for everyone there.
Leading up to the festivities on May 19th, we will be releasing a series of interviews with bands playing the festival. Each band will be tackling ten questions about the festival, giving advice to new attendees, retelling their favourite stories and generally just getting excited for the three day extravaganza!!
We kick off the series featuring interviews with Paul McKenzie of The Real McKenzies and Ben Sir of Worst Days Down.
Without further ado, we bass the baton over to Paul McKenzie to lead the way.
Vancouver Irish punks Real McKenzies have announced that their new album, Rats in the Burlap is due for release on March 24th via Fat Wreck Chords (Canada). The record is the band’s 11th full length and first since 2012’s Westwinds. Paul McKenzie has said this about the new album:
“Ahoy there. On behalf of The Real McKenzies and myself we are pleased as punch & haggis to announce the release of our latest album Rats in the Burlap. This album is chocked full of new songs that we just know will appeal to all. The lads and I are proud to have completed this latest endeavor along with the help of Little Joe and Fat Mike. With Josh Garcia at the helm and great cover art, we are confident and enthralled to have had the opportunity to have had released another masterpiece. Let the tours begin!!!”

on July 19th, 2007 at Starlite Room - Edmonton, Alberta
The yearly Fat Tour came through Edmonton once again this year, this time under the moniker of 1,2,3 Punk! and featuring the musical styles of none other than The Mad Caddies, the Real McKenzies and The Sainte Catherines. Instead of doing a generic interview, we decided that we’d let the three bands roam free and interview themselves – and that’s what we did. Brian, from the Caddies, Paul from the McKenzies and Marc from The Sainte Catherines sat down before the show and told stories and jokes – some funny, some painfully unfunny. While a read through the interview may not tell you much about the bands themselves, you will discover some great stories: adventures with fireworks, playing naked, swimming with dolphins, the beauty of french cuisine and the fine snacks available at strip clubs. Top it all off with a slight dash of Canadian history covering everything from the FLQ to the roller coaster crash at Galaxyland in West Edmonton Mall and you’re in for one crazy conversation. Paul McKenzie sums it up best: “When i’m dying on my bed, it’s going to be the things that I didn’t do that I regret.” And yes, I think we actually answered three real questions too. Read More…
