Fresh from completing a brief tour of the UK, the London based cosmic punk outfit WACO have announced their return to recording with the imminent release of their new EP, Deathless, that is set for release through Gallows label, Venn Records, tomorrow, the 2nd June 2017. The quartet, that originally hail from the weirder nooks of the UK, came together through their animalistic compulsion to make noise and their shared goal to brainwash the masses with their relentless optimism, and Deathless certainly lives up to their lofty ambitions

Mother Mercy opens with a guitar riff that recalls The Only Ones ability to raise the hairs on the back of your neck, after this it becomes an original unpredictable staccato blast of punk infused alt rock, the next track, Heavy Heart, picks you up by the scruff of the neck as it channels a solid street punk inspired punker, which is promptly followed by the raucous Coolangatta that carries the blue collar grunt of The Hold Steady. The heaviest hitter, and the EP’s finest moment, is the frenetic Feed Your Head before the final track, Best Friend, brings things to an anthemic and rocky close.

WACO have released an energetic and original EP that is the perfect follow up to their debut single, Sundown, and last years critically acclaimed Uprise EP. Deathless is an upbeat blast of a five track EP that blends the attitude and hedonism of punk with the spirit of heartland rock, along with a sprinkle of indie and psych influences, to impressive effect. The end result is an EP that is so relentlessly optimistic and infectious that it’s hard not to feel uplifted after giving it a spin, even for the most hardened cynic.

The Deathless EP will be available via Venn Records here

Gallows Announce New Album

GallowsUK hardcore punk act Gallows has announced details for their next album.  The album will be titled Desolation Sounds and is due out on April 13, 2015 via Venn/Play It Again Sam Records.   The album was co-produced by Steve Sears at Titan Studios, Watford.  Guitarist Laurent ‘Lags’ Barnard comment:

“I think the album sounds really fearless… It’s the sound of a band that’s comfortable with playing music together, rather than trying to fit into a certain scene or zeitgeist or any preconceived notion of what the band should be. We just ignored the outside music world and made an album that felt good in our guts.”

Before the album hits the street, the band will be releasing a digital single and 7″ for the song “Bonfire Season” as a digital download and 7” vinyl. Laurent elaborates:

“Bonfire Season began as an ode to the amazing Siouxsie and the Banshees… I’ve always been a fan of that slightly gothic, dark style of punk and felt it was the time for Gallows to explore that style of music. The verses still have that old school boot stomp feel but combined with atmospheric noises providing menacing undertones. “

Video: Gallows – Chains

GallowsThe UK/Canadian hardcore veterans Gallows have recently unveiled a new music video for their single, Chains

The video was filmed in Toronto by Canadian director and musician Josh Reichmann, who used his distinctive style to create the foreboding atmosphere to match the song. Frontman, and former Alexisonfire member, Wade MacNeil explained:

“We approached the making of the ‘Chains’ video unlike anything the band had done in the past. Looking at it more like a short film than a music video. The end result was something that is dark, beautiful, and other worldly; very much like the song itself.”

Chains” was recently released through Bridge Nine in the U.S. and the bands own label Venn elsewhere on 7inch and digital formats.

The video, along with the band’s upcoming tour dates, can be seen below.

Wade MacNeil (Alexisonfire) Joins Gallows

Black LungsFormer Alexisonfire guitarist Wade MacNeil has announced that he will be replacing vocalist Frank Carter in Gallows who left the band earlier this month.  Alexisonfire themselves announced their break-up this past weekend

The announcement was made through an exclusive interview with Alternative Press magazine. In it, he explains how he became part of the band:

After the boys decided they were going to keep going, my name kind of popped up, and they all thought it made sense. It didn’t overcomplicate itself.  I talked to Steph [Carter, guitarist], and I said I was definitely interested. He pretty much said, “Okay, let’s do it,” and I got on a plane and we’re writing right now.

He also mentioned the differences between himself and Cater saying:

I definitely think I have a very, very different voice than Frank—and I mean aside from yelling, I think just the tone of my voice is going to be the one thing that’s really, really different.  Even though I’ve spent a lot of the last 10 years touring England in various bands, I don’t have a British perspective for everything, so whereas the last record was definitely focused on Britain specifically, I think everything we’re going to do in the future will definitely have more of a worldview. That’s something everyone in the band can relate to, because we spent the majority of our youth traveling the world playing punk shows.

It seems that Gallows have hit a crossroads in our writing process and unfortunately myself and the rest of the boys have different ideas regarding the sound of Gallows going forward. Gallows have decided they are going to continue on without me and I wish the boys the best of luck for the future. Gallows will be fulfilling all of our current touring plans until August 1st so please come down to a show and help me make each show a total celebration!”
