Chuck Ragan – Camaraderie of the Commons

Chuck RaganWeathered folk soloist Chuck Ragan is offering a free download of his song “Camaraderie of the Commons.”  The song originally appeared as a bonus track on Ragan’s latest release, Covering Ground (SideOneDummy Records).  Ragan discusses his inspiration behind the song:

“The first time I read this term and found the meaning, it stuck with me in a way where I realized that whether we understand the initial outcome of our acts or not, whether we deplete our resources or not, there are common bonds, communities and individuals who truly wish to make a difference in this world within the time that we’re here and preserve as much as we’re able to for the young ones who’ll follow us,” he explains. “Even if we as a society have passed the point of no return and at times live in a way that is of detriment to our longevity.”

Tour: The Revival Tour Coming to the U.S. and Canada, Spring 2012

Chuck RaganThe Revival Tour has announced a string of U.S. and Canadian tour dates for the spring of 2012.  The tour, a collaborative event between musicians, was first started back in 2008 as the brainchild of Hot Water Music’s Chuck Ragan.  Of the tour Ragan has said:

“There’s no hierarchy; it’s about sharing music together and bringing it to people in an extremely honest and grassroots fashion. It’s apparent that simple songs of folk music has been rising in popularity and it’s a joy to bring known artists that people already love but very important to us to expose lesser known artists to the world who play exemplary music and live by ethics we admire whether they’re solo musicians, groups or a singer of a band.”

Now in its 5th year, The Revival Tour will kick off March 20th in Dallas, TX featuring Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio/Emergency Room), Cory Branan, Tommy Gabel (Against Me!), and Nathaniel Rateliff.

Tickets are on sale here starting today, and offer four separate pre-sale packages for fans.

Chuck Ragan Featuring Brian Fallon: Meet You In The Middle

Chuck RaganChuck Ragan has posted a new song from his forthcoming album, Covering Ground. The song, Meet You In The Middle, features The Gaslight Anthem‘s Brian Fallon on back-up vocals.

In an interview with American Songwriter Ragan explained the song saying:

I wrote “Meet You In The Middle” somewhere in the UK on tour last year when I was overseas with The Gaslight Anthem in the fall of 2010. It’s about finding love when you least expect it or love finding you and knocking you into place. It’s about finding that freedom with the one you love the most and giving them your all to grow old and grey with them. Simply put, it was inspired by the hardships of being away from the ones we love the most while touring and staying connected the best we can to meet them half way.

The song can be heard here.

Chuck Ragan Details New Album

Chuck Ragan has officially unveiled his follow up to 2009’s Feast Or Famine.  His third studio album will be titled Covering Ground and is set for a September 13, 2011 release via SideOneDummy Records.  Ragan comments on the disc’s title, pointing to his restless touring schedule for inspiration:

“The majority, if not all of these songs were either written on the road or they are about the road. There aren’t any hidden meanings within the title at all. It is what it is and it depicts what I’ve done since the release of the last record, as well as the majority of my life… but the fact of the matter is, some of us have been raised to live and thrive in one place throughout our lives, while others have constantly been on the move. There’s no telling which is for the better or for the worse. That all depends on the person we wish to be and the perspective we choose to view.”

The album was recorded between three different tours and will boast ten brand new tracks.

For the record, Ragan enlisted the help of numerous artists to come and play on the album.  Guests includes the full time members Jon Gaunt (fiddle) and Joe Ginsberg (upright bass), as well as Christopher Thorn (mandolin, guitar, lap steel, banjo), Rich Steff (organ, piano, accordion) and Todd Beene (pedal steel) of Lucero, Chris Phillips of Squirrel Nut Zippers (bodhran, tambourines, percussion), Frank Turner (backing vocals), Audra Mae (backing vocals), and Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem (backing vocals).
