Today we launch the first entry from Less Than Jake‘s Tour Diary for their current Canadian tour. October 9th saw them enter the great white north and play their first show at The Venue in Vancouver.
Saxophonist JR Wasilewski details the day while drummer Vinnie Fiorello snapped some photos of the scenery.
Vancouver BC – Getting across the border is never considered a “fun task” for any band. This morning we got to the border around 10 am and were lucky enough to not have to go inside and line up. They let us through and unfortunately I felt too ill to appreciate our new found luck so back to bed I went.
When I finally woke up we were in Vancouver parked about a block and a half from the club. Unfortunately I missed lunch at Japadog but I’m not sure my newly acquired upset stomach would have let me enjoy it very much. While waiting patiently to load in, usually us and the crew will sit around laughing and telling stories until it’s time to “push cases” as they say.
Vancouver is always a great city to come to because our good friend Limo of NoFX is usually home and will come hang out. Seeing a friendly face early in the tour always helps to make it a smooth transition into a tour. After soundcheck everyone went to go get some food. I, again, feeling like total garbage, went back to bed with hopes that I could feel well enough to meet some of our fans at the meet and greet we are doing for this Canadian tour.
No such luck. Slept right through the meet and greet. It isn’t fun to be sick on tour because no matter what, we have to play. I drank a bunch of waters and went inside just in time to catch the end of The Interrupters set. These guys blew the roof off the place! They are a great band and if you haven’t heard them you owe yourself a favor to hear them.
Up next were our friends in Big D. and The Kids Table and I can honestly say these are some of my favorite people and one of my favorite bands. It’s so awesome to be on tour with people and bands you love!
By the time we hit the stage kids were wild and the set was a lot of fun. We even have our Evolution Kid out in the circle pit having fun with everyone. Vancouver gets an A+ for the first show of tour! Now off to Calgary for some fun and some steaks!
Thanks,
JR
