Ahead of this year’s Rebellion Festival we’re asking a selection of the band’s who are appearing about what we can expect, and for their advice on surviving the four day festival. In the twelfth of The Punk Site‘s 2019 Rebellion Festival previews we speak to Rat, Sally, Tim and Badja from Dead Objectives, a band who will be bringing a fresh new assault on everything which is wrong in their world to the Rebellion Festival. Firmly grounded in their punk roots, the band began in Manchester in 2013 and released their impressive debut album “Human Symptom” at the end of last year. You can read about what to expect from Dead Objectives at the Rebellion Festival below.

Is this your first experience of the Rebellion Festival or have you played before?

Tim: this is the first time as Dead Objectives, Badj the drummer played last year with her other band but yeah, this is the first time we’ve played .
Badja: Were super excited!!!
Rat: I’ve done sound there a few times but to play a stage will be fucking awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing friends old and new there

What can we look forward to from your set?

Tim: I would definitely say the new song ‘fox hunt’ which we’ve been working on for the past couple months now from the new album. We’ve got a lot of new material, some we might play
Rat: yeah but some of the old favourites will be in the set
Badja: they’re all face melters!!! So get your dance pants on!
Tim: Get angry and dance!
Everyone:Hahahaha!

What makes the Rebellion Festival special for you?

Tim: it’s the love and hugs you get from everyone there! Kidding, I mean it’s just a great atmosphere, everyone having a good time; it’s just all about the music.
Badja: literally everyone is there; it’s just like a huge punk family fucking holiday! It takes half hour just to walk from one stage to another because you stop every five seconds to chat with people you’ve not seen for ages. Last year I completely missed some bands I wanted to see because I’d bumped into people on route haha!

Will you have the chance to catch anyone else whilst you’re there and is there anyone else on the bill you’d recommend people go and see?

Tim: Kickback generation, system of hate, Uproar
Badja: Spring Park, Pollypikpocketz, Tokyo Taboo, Millie Manders, Terminal Rage, Paranoid Visions, Subhumans, Kingcrows, Vomit, 999, Conflict, Kid Klumsy, Weekend Recovery
Rat: 1919, they’re a good band I’ve not not seen for a while
Sally: Wonk Unit. Steve Ignorant, Chameleons
Tim: yeah, Chameleons but they’re on at the same time we’re playing Temple Bar. Absolutely gutted! I love them! I can’t tell you how genuinely gutted I am!

If you could pick one band to appear at the Rebellion Festival who would it be?

Rat: Melt Banana
Sally: Criminal Mind and rancid. They need to get Rancid back!

Do you have a favourite memory from a previous Rebellion Festival?

Rat: one of my favourite memories has to be Frank Sidebottom.
Badja: it’s just a random weekend of drinking, music and chatting bollox ain’t it? With the best people in the world.
Tim: yeah, we’ve done plenty of that! Hahahaha
Rat: Churchill’s karaoke

Are you currently on tour if so where else are you playing this year?

Sally: We’re not on tour but we’ve got loads of gigs in the diary.
Tim:  loads of stuff coming up! We’ve got a three gig weekend just before Rebellion, festival in St Anne’s on the Friday. We’re going back to our favourite venue in the north east, the Black Bull in August, Doll’s house in Wales later in the year
Badja: Percy’s. we’re going back there so plenty of chatting shit around the autopsy table
Tim: And taxidermy
Sally: loads coming up
Tim: yeah so hope to see you at one of those. The gig list is regularly updated so keep a look out for that.

What can we look forward to from you in the next twelve months?

Tim: Another album. Touring in Europe. We’ve been working away on new material the last few months for the album so we’re almost ready to go into the studio, so we’re looking forward to that.
Badja: yeah, the response to Human Symptom was amazing so hopefully we can build in the success of that one with the follow up album.

Do you have any festival survival tips?

Badja: don’t hang around with me
Tim: Hahahahaha! Sounds about right. She’s a bad influence.
Rat: yeah, don’t hang about with Badja
Everyone: hahahahaha!
Tim: yeah, you end up shitfaced til stupid o’clock the entire weekend.
Tim: take a towel. Oh and toilet roll. Hahahahaha! Even if you’re staying in hotel take toilet roll.
Sally: Water. Water is your friend!
Everyone: Hahahaha!
Badja: euwwww! As long as it’s infused with hops and barley, that’s my kind of water!
Everyone: Hahahaha!

Is there anything else in Blackpool you’d recommend people experience whilst they’re in the town?

Tim: definitely check out the tower ballroom. Beautiful architecture so yeah, go check that out.
Rat: That vegan cafe is pretty cool. Can’t remember the name though
Badja: You start off intending to do a whole bunch of stuff and as the weekend progresses you just go with the flow; you can’t have a rigid plan at Rebellion haha!

Finally when and where are you appearing?

Tim: We’ll be on the Introducing stage, Thursday 1st August at 5.45. Hope to see you there. Get down early, check out the bands, come say hello!
Badja: We’ve got a merch table just outside the Introducing stage when we play so we’ll be there after our set, so come say hello!

Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, we’ll see you down the front
