Nice cover, but why are you singing a song written by a band that is anti-Christian and anti-religion. The song was intnded to say how bad relegiion (Christianity) is for people.

  2. TJ says:

Lorrie, did you read the lyrics to this song? What I love about Switchfoot is that they aren’t anti-secular music. Part of the problem in this world are the extremes people go. Christians can sing songs that are written by non-Christians.

  3. TJ says:

even Christians can ask “God if you’re there, why is there so much suffering in this world?”… this song is a story about Job. And yes, their band name is “Bad Religion” because of how unfortunate it is that religions have caused so much segregation & pain in the world, so they were making a statement that it’s not so much about “religion” as it is about “spirituality” (2 things I think are very different from one another)… so their name originates from not conforming – granted, yes, it’s quite political etc, but on a deeper level, I get what they’re saying.

By the way, my intention here is not to argue with you. :) At face value I would have agreed with your comment, but the beautiful thing is that God wants us to look deeper, & it’s amazing what we can find & what God can reveal to us if we just allow ourselves that openness.

    Take care.

  4. Mateo says:

“Father can you hear me?” “When the only true messiah rescues us from ourselves” It’s a beautiful song about the kingdom come.

this is an amazing cover. True test of a great song is if it can be sung simply and acoustically, this is good writing and great singing. To me, the Bad Religion version sounds more like it’s a cover of something Offspring would have written ~ I guess I have never listened to Bad Religion much~ guess I need to check them out.

Interesting comments on the subject of the spirituality and intention of these two bands. I don’t know their hearts, or their intentions, but I know God does. That’s about all I really have to go on in trying to decipher their spirituality, intent, or purposes, but one thing that I try to do is see how what they say (and of course everyone has their own interpretations of songs) holds up to my religious faith and beliefs. It’s always comforting to me when I hear truth spoken, except when it is purposely combined with falsehoods. In those cases, I know that the end result is negative. There are times however, when truths are spoken with falsehoods, by people who are unaware of the “half truths” they are speaking. In these cases confusion still remains, and can be perpetuated. Because so many Christians believe different things, it’s easy to see how this second example might happen. Yet again, even when a person is taught the truth, and not through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost (meaning that the person speaking the truth to the other induvidual is not right with God in their own hearts) it can be taken wrong, and/or do harm to the induvidual hearing the message. All I know, is that we all have to keep a firm grasp onto the things of God and the Spirit, in order to make proper decisions on these types of things. As for myself, I’m not sure what to think about it. I guess I could take it to God in prayer, but then I’d have to be willing to receive the answer and act upon it, otherwise I won’t get His answer.

    Thanks.

Great cover of a fine song! I hope that you are going to have a fantastic show with Bad Religion later on! Jesus loves you don´t be fooled by bad religion (that is not that So Cal punkband but the prosperity gospel)! I used to be an atheist for 15 years (1979-1994) and also a diehard Bad Religion fan after the “Suffer” album (1988-1994). Then I was saved by Lord Jesus on the 14th of January in 1995 after reading the Bible and writings of Martin Luther. I destroyed my whole punkrock collection (about 4400 records; cds, cd-eps, 12″ lps, eps & 7″ eps) nearly 5 years after my salvation day. Was it wrong or right, I do not know – I did what I did ; I used to have a testimony of my salvation in Flipside magazine of fall back in ´95 and I still have that P.O. address: J.J.J., P.O. Box 18, SF-37801 TOIJALA, FINLAND

Last March (2010) I found myself writing a long letter to Greg Graffin (to their facebook) and then I bought all the discography of his band Bad Religion. Some of lyrics of BR are pretty smart. Greg had a song called “Do What You Want” (album `Suffer`& 12th song) and his lyrics goes like this: `I´ll believe in God when 1+1=5`. Btw, there is always 5 persons when two born again Christians are praying; for example: me 42 year old man, my nearly 7 year old son Jarno and then Father, Son & Holy Ghost with us! I have also written many e-mails to his address that was found in American Lesion – s/t CD (Greg´s 1st solo album). Jesus loves Greg Graffin just as much as He loved me when I was a punkrocker filled with Amebix slogans: `No Gods, No Masters`! Now I love Jesus Christ because He died on the cross because of me and my sins (actually because of the sins of all mankind). There are no exceptions I think! We all killed Christ Jesus almost 2000 years ago – we all are sinners!

So please keep on praying that many punkrockers could be saved by Lord Jesus! Jesus Christ lives and He is coming soon! Have a great week and greetings from Finland! Regards, Jari Juhani Jääskeläinen (aka J.J.J.)
