And now for something quite different from the previous ode to hardcore. Cara Beth Satalino is the vocalist for indie group Witches, and her solo work makes for a very peaceful listen. If you like female fronted indie rock with plenty of lofty ambitions, then hey debut EP is right for you. Donate if you feel like it.
Here’s something a little different, instrumental rock. It’s nice and low key, and very well layered and envisioned, so check it out if you’re in the mood for something to challenge the mind.
I vaguely remember Brooklyn rock group Hello Nurse from an old EP titled. At the time I quite enjoyed the brand of power-pop on Chorusaurus, I felt a good bit of nostalgia roll over me when their latest, a free EP titled Pharmagicians, came my way. They have a new lead singer, but they still haven’t lost their old sense of humour. A good reintroduction to an old band.
Ghost Robot Ninja Bear recently released their most recent EP, and it’s just as good as the last. The eccentrically named group includes ex-members of Nakatomi Plaza, and plays a brand of scratchy, whole-hearted punk rock heavy on edgy riffs and a steady bass line. Definitely bodes well for their inevitable full length.
Ghost Robot Ninja Bear – Staring At The Clocks b/w Carousel
Smooth and laid back, but never boring, the boys in Selfish Whales have a great command of fluttery, folky, calming indie. There’s always lots going on, but never enough to overwhelm or intimidate. Donate if you find yourself overcome by a sea of tranquility.
Here’s a little five track indie gem. It’s easy going, relaxing, and altogether pleasant. They guys also recently took part in one of ifyoumakeit’s pink couch recording sessions (check out that real DIY cardboard box percussion!).
ARMS – Self Titled EP (please forgive the world’s smallest album art)
Here’s something from Californian five-piece Ready Aim Fire! Their free EP, The Stranger, sounds like what a bus packed with pop punk bands colliding with The Weakerthans’s tour van might sound like if while Minus The Bear wrote an account of the mishap. A curious diversion at the very least.
Here’s one of the best releases ifyoumakeit has to offer. The Future Kings Of Nothing offer a really good little slice of innocent indie pop, and it’s damn catchy to boot. Donations also go towards the lead singer’s current battle with lymphoma, so the price is right should you decided to donate.
Cheap Girls have become a favourite in the noisy power-pop genre over the past few years. They’re a nasally and a little annoying, but still pretty easy to get into. It’s only free for the next 24 hours, so reward yourself if you checked this blog today and get it fast!
Sound as Language is becoming a great place for amazing free indie albums. After sampling a couple tracks from their latest upload, Touch Committee’s Winter Beard, I just had to post this right away. If you love wistful indie with a lively edge, then look no further! Stop reading and download ASAP!
