Bankrupt is probably Budapest’s biggest pop-punk export. The band plays a Ramones style beat in the simplest of senses, and latches onto concise hooks that never take place for more than two minutes. Bobby has reviewed a couple of their latest offerings, including one of their free EPs, Razor Wires And Neon Lights. I won’t blab on about it for long since Bobby has an in-depth look here, but I will say that it’s a fun little six-track listen that pop punkers will find well worth their time.

I recently reviewed and loved Dandelion Snow’s latest album, The Grand Scheme of Things. It’s a real gem and listeners would be advised to check it out. But he has another release out there as well. It’s called It’s Just A Bad Dream, and it came out in late 2009. It too is gold. Granted, Roger Harvey doesn’t have as much experience behind his older offering, but it’s just as passionate and well written. The label has it up over on their website and released it as a free download at the time of release. It’s still up, so get grabbing!

I think this is the first classic piece of punk on this blog as of now, and I couldn’t think of a better piece to kick off with. Seamen existed in the 90′s around the Vancouver punk scene and apparently put out a little gem by the name of Liquor Face. It’s fast, sloppy, surprisingly well mastered, and embodies everything Vancovuer’s hardcore scene stood for in the 90′s.

So yeah, the name of this band is rather juvenile, and truthfully, so is the content. It is however, pretty solid melodic pop punk with a great sloppy conclusion. Mr. Boner was kind enough to email me a link to his album, Not Quite Famous Yet. The first time I tried downloading the album from mediafire I was bombarded with some rather explicit ads on the website, so I said I couldn’t really post the link on here in good taste. Thankfully Billy has uploaded the tracks to a couple other file sharing websites, so here they are, all the way from Norway!

Rentokill has to be my favourite Italian punk band. In a region more known for hardcore than pure punk, Rentokill has found a fantastic middle ground. They made a formal North American debut last year on Stomp Records, but their story didn’t start there. Back in 2004 Rentokill released Back To Convenience over in Australia of all places. The album was such a hit that a year later Engineer Records picked it up for a state-side re-issue. And now the band has upped the album for all over on Last.fm, and it’s a must grab.

Tit Patrol is graciously offering a free download of their 2009 full length, Gets Less Worse. The album fits right in with the Fat Wreck Chords school of late 90′s pop punk. Think Squirtgun meets something over in the Red Scare Industries camp and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect. The band also recently released a new album for 2010 titled Hate Speech, which is well worth checking out if you dig their older stuff.

Dine Alone Records has released a digital sampler with tracks from all their latest releases. It includes bands like Parlovr, Tokyo Police Club, Attack In Black, and City And Colour to name a few. And to top it off, you can make your own album art (which really doesn’t serve much of a purpose, but is kinda cool in a a geeky music nerd kind way). Flex those creative muscles and get at it!

Here’s a short little EP filled with poppy hooks, soaring melodies, and overall fun and good times. The disc is Junior Battles’ self titled debut. It’s only four tracks long, but has the potential to be played again and again without losing any of its initial draw. It’s another ifyoumakeit freebie, so feel free to drop a donation if it’s to your liking.

Smooth and laid back, but never boring, the boys in Selfish Whales have a great command of fluttery, folky, calming indie. There’s always lots going on, but never enough to overwhelm or intimidate. Donate if you find yourself overcome by a sea of tranquility.

Death To False Hope Records is is usually a home for crusty punk rock, but now the label seems to trying its hand with melodic, technical hardcore punk with the release of Recover’s From The Tracks. The UK/Sweden based band is a real breath of fresh air for the label, and should easily satisfy fans of Strung Out, Millencolin, and A Wilhelm Scream as predicted on the label description.
